Etiquette is important in Ugandan life and when family meals are ready, all members wash their hands. When visitors or neighbours drop by at meal times, they will share in the meal. Usually prayers are said before each meal and children only talk when asked a question. It is also considered impolite to leave the table when others are eating. When the meal is finished it is polite to say thank you to the mother or the person who cooked the meal.
